Arrow Ericsson brings first HSPA network in Latin America to ENTEL PCS

Ericsson is bringing the first HSPA-enabled 3G/WCDMA commercial network in Latin America to a leading Chilean operator, ENTEL PCS. Ericsson will also expand and modernize ENTEL PCS's existing network with Ericsson's Mobile Softswitch solution.

Under the sole-supplier agreement, Ericsson will provide new 2G and 3G/WCDMA core and radio networks, including mobile softswitch and HSPA. Ericsson will have the prime-integrator role and will provide network deployment, systems integration and business consulting services.

Ericsson's HSPA solution will enable ENTEL PCS to break through with a new generation of mobile broadband services, delivering true broadband speed of up to 3.6Mbps. ENTEL PCS subscribers will also enjoy a richer communication experience.

With Ericsson's Mobile Softswitch solution, ENTEL PCS has taken an important step towards an all-IP network and it will be able to cost-efficiently offer a wide range of new and differentiating multimedia services.

Hernan Marió, CEO, ENTEL PCS, Chile, says: "Ericsson's state-of-the-art solutions will allow us to provide best-in-class services to our customers. It will also enable us to make a giant leap forward in mobile broadband in the Chilean market."

Gino Montalto, country manager, Ericsson Chile, says: "To build the first HSPA network in Latin America is an important milestone, and we are proud to be on ENTEL PCS's side. It will bring a richer communication experience to ENTEL PCS's customers and will open new opportunities in the region."

Ericsson's HSPA solution will enable download speeds of up to 14.4Mbps. The advanced technology lets operators more than double their system capacity and cuts response times for interactive services. On average, users will be able to download 20 times faster than with a GSM/GPRS connection.
