Nokia N95: Compare "Made by NOKIA" & "Made in Finland" models

For days now, I see questions in the web, regarding N95's hometown and what are the differences.

We found out that there are two versions of the Nokia N95 in the market.

The first version is wearing a sticker on the back writing "Made in Finland" while the second one writes "Made by NOKIA".

Nokia N95 is more than a month in the market and now a lot of my friends (and me) got that amazing multimedia device, some of us got the "Made in Finland" model while others got the "Made by NOKIA". The picture on the right up corner displays the differences of the box-art between the two versions. On the Left is the "Made in Finland" model and on the right the "Made by NOKIA"

Here are some quick facts and differences between the two models.

• The "Made in Finland" model gets developed as it says in Finland Europe, while the "Made by NOKIA" in Hong Kong China.
• As stated the retail Box is different.
• Both models are coming with 1GB microSD card* (*some countries are excluded)
• The "Made by NOKIA" box includes a Nokia Case.
• also the "Made by NOKIA" box includes a Screen Protector.
• Both of them are coming with firmware version: v10.0.018 installed
• The "Made in Finland" model has the bug and doesn't switch to "Silent" Profile when you press and hold the # key. "Made by NOKIA" model doesn't have that problem. (Tested also with the latest firmware)
• Built Quality for the "Made in Finland" model is better. At least to our case. We notice that the "Made by NOKIA" models have a loose slider. "Made in Finland" models feels much more stable. Thats based in seven different devices three of them was "Made by NOKIA" and the other four was "Made in Finland". Only one Made in Finland has a noticeable loose slider.

Another thing that I like to state is that two of my friends with "Made by NOKIA" models had a problem with the back 5 Mega pixels camera. The camera just stopped working. There was no previous damage on the phone, a hit or something like that, just stopped working. When we was opening the camera cover, the camera application was started as it supposed to, then it froze there without display any picture.
After contacting NOKIA, we found out that this is a well known problem that affects a specific production line of the Nokia N95, it is fully covered by warranty and they will replace your phone with a new one. So if you where unlucky and it happens to have one of this defective models contact Nokia or your supplier immediately. We wasn't able to find out if that affects both "Made in Finland" and "Made by NOKIA" models but for sure it happened twice in two of our "Made by NOKIA" models.

you have some of the details mixed up.

the hong kong version does not come with the nokia leather case, it's the singapore version, also the "#" when pressed on the hong kong version will switch to line 1 and line 2.

the hong kong version comes with grey box and not the white.

there really is no differences between the two, you just need to be lucky to get a good built N95.

I double check the product code of the "Made by Nokia" model and its the one for Hong Kong.

As I stated it was a "Made in Finland" model with loose slider as well, but "Made by Nokia" models was more likely to be.
So since both models spotted with loose sliders, I agree with you that in that case being lucky may be the case. But from what we tested most of Hong Kong models came with loose slider than the Finland ones.

Hmm I have a "Made in Finland" phone but the silent profile bug isn't there for me. So is that just random to ?

igmas you have a point.

My "Made in Finland" model had a US product code and firmware V10.
In that model the #/silent bug was there.

When firmware V11 came out I change my product code to Europe before the update, then updated to V11 and the bug disappeared.

You it either depends on the product code or they fix it to V11.

Is this in US or UK?

I have bought a nokia n95 Made in finland but the Accessories which come with it are from China and Japan and Thailand. Is it like this only that only handset are made in finland.
Would like to know the inside details.

That sounds normal.
Accessories like headsets for example are usually "Made in China".

i have a nokia n95 made in finland and i saw an n95 for sale that has a dual sim card slot and it says made by nokia. are these real?
