Thumbs up Microsoft to give native Blu-Ray support for Windows

After the official death of Toshiba's HD DVD format, Microsoft is clearing up the HD era in Windows OS. The company until recently supported HD DVD as a native HD format for its windows machines but things are about to change since HD DVD is already part of history.

Microsoft is working to a soon to be release driver that will give Windows native support for Sony's Blu-Ray HD format.

"We've already been working on, for example, in Windows, device driver support for Blu-ray drives and the like," said Ballmer, speaking at the Microsoft's Mix '08 conference. Ballmer also said that Microsoft is "going to support Blu-ray in ways that are important," according to a transcript of his remarks posted on the company's Web site.
